The client's backyard is west-facing and receives lots of sunlight in the later parts of the day. Since he enjoys entertaining, he wanted a material that disperses heat quickly, and for that reason he opted for two colors of TimberTech Advanced PVC decking. The colors he selected complement his home's color scheme so it integrates well and looks like it's always been there.
The client's home office leads directly onto the deck, and he wanted to have a clear view from inside that wasn't obstructed by stair railings. Our solution was an extra-wide staircase that provides a grand entrance onto the deck and hides the railings from view when looking out from his office.
The client's selection of two decking colors creates a subtle contrast on the staircases, with American Walnut on the treads and French White Oak on the risers. This subtle design element gives a more custom look, and highlights the attention to detail from us and the homeowner.
The client opted for a two-step fascia to give the deck a substantial look, as well as coordinating post wraps to tie it all together.
The client's choice of cable railing throughout the project maximizes sight lines into his stunning backyard, and post cap lights accentuate the entire structure to keep it all cohesive.
To conceal the bottom of the deck, we added PVC skirting and painted it with a custom color match to the French White Oak fascia. Not only does the skirting elevate the aesthetic of the deck, it also prevents critters from getting underneath and wreaking havoc.
The deck overlooks his backyard which is accented by a gently flowing stream at the back. Additionally, the backyard has thoughtful landscaping to the side. These areas are the most picturesque in the yard, so the client selected drink rails on these two sides since he and his guests are most likely to spend time on those portions of the space.
To accommodate an entertaining area with furniture to comfortably seat 4, the deck was built to be 16' by 16'. This size provides plenty of space without feeling excessive, and gives the homeowner a bit of flexibility if he wants to add a small bart cart or other additional furnishings.
It's clear that this homeowner knew exactly what he wanted, and we were thrilled to be able to bring it to life for him!
Once we finished, our client did an amazing job of furnishing the space using appropriately-sized pieces, clean lines, and a dedicated color palette. For tips about decorating your outdoor space, be sure to check out our blog and resources page!
