4 Low-Cost Ways to Enhance Your Deck Design

Design

Common sense would tell you that the simplest deck is the cheapest deck. But we’re here to tell you that that’s not always the case – often times the upgrades you expect to break the bank are much more economical than you’d expect, and can fit well within your budget! We’re breaking down some of our favorite low-cost features below.

1. Add Contrasting Trim or Risers

To bring a subtle design element to your deck, we suggest selecting a different color from your main decking choice to act as a perimeter to your new deck space. You can choose an option that’s as subtle or bold as you like – either way it will add visual interest with minimal cost!

One thing to consider when opting for multiple colors: we suggest that you select colors within the same collection, since each collection has its own texture and grain pattern. Selecting colors within the same collection or line ensures that there aren’t too many variables and the color variance is able to shine on its own.

2. Add Integrated Riser Lights

There are many ways to incorporate lighting into your deck, and many options add much less cost than you might think – riser lights being one of them. Additionally, all of our deck lighting is low voltage and will add a minimal – if not negligible – amount to your electric bill. Not only do these lights add ambience to your space, they also increase safety and reduce the risk of hospital bills from a fall!

3. Opt for Multiple Levels

Believe it or not, it doesn’t have to break the bank to break up your space! While large spaces are flexible, there’s also something to be said for a cozy elevated seating nook off to the side! In the photo above, our clients chose to add a small raised platform near the door to keep their grill, so that it’s close and easy to use in the winter – how cute! It’s these little custom details that make all the difference and make the deck truly yours.

4. Add Built-In Seating and/or Planters

Take the dollars you would spend on peripheral seating or planters and invest it into structures that are built into the deck using the same materials. Not only does this maximize available space, it also provides visual consistency and makes your deck look more elegant and intentional. Not to mention, your seating and flower beds will be as durable, rot-proof, resistant to staining, and easy to clean as the rest of your deck!
